The Hickory Music Factory (HMF) hosts dozens of events and programs in the Catawba community and serves over 20,000 people each year. The majority of these programs are free and open to the public and reach out to all ages, from children to seniors.

Jazz Combo @ Hickory Music Factory
Jan 21 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

The HMF Jazz Combo offers students an opportunity to explore Jazz styles in a small group setting. The program is designed to help students develop the skills necessary to excel in small ensemble performance, emphasizing Improvisation, reading chord changes and playing from simple lead sheets.

The HMF Jazz Combo is available to Junior High and High School students who schedule and pass an audition.

Instrumentation needed for the group; Voice, Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, Guitar, Bass, Drum Set/Percussion/Vibraphone

The ensemble will meet weekly on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30pm beginning Jan.14.

Open Mic Night @ Hickory Music Factory
Jan 25 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Everyone is invited to the Hickory Music Factory’s Open Mic Night held the last Saturday of each month. Solo acts/full bands are welcomed to come and play. P.A., drums, amps and piano are provided. Performers get a 10 minute slot to perform and sign up is at 7:45pm. Open to the public/all ages.

HMF Tribute Concert @ Salt Block - Drendel Auditorium

The Hickory Music Factory will give the annual HMF Tribute Concert on Jan 26, at 2pm in the Drendle Auditorium at the Salt Block. This years honorees will be Sally Ross, Nathan Hefner, and Geneva Byrd. This event honors musicians and educators from the area each year who have had a significant impact on our community with their contributions of music performance and education. Its another way for the community to thank and celebrate these inspirational people in our community. Past honorees include: Jim Calabrese, Bob Taylor, Harris Brothers, Pat and Kay Crouch, Byron and Lou Bean, Jimmy Lackey, Pop Fergusson, Kent Duffield, Randy Ingold, John Gordon Ross, Charles Deal and more. The guest band will be the Hickory Jazz Orchestra led by Rick Cline, assistant directory of HMF and professor of music at LRU. The cost of the event is $10 general admission, $5 for students and seniors.
HMF’s mission is to build futures through music by teaching,
performance, and community outreach.

They perform at varies places towards the end of the semester. Instruments in the ensemble include guitar, violin, ukulele, cello, mandolin, banjo, percussion, bass, and voice.

Schlagen-Music gives students the opportunity to experience and appreciate music by singing, playing instruments, movement and reading age appropriate musical notation. Students will get to explore all the different elements of music such as rhythm, melody, dynamics and tempo through the Kodaly and Orff Methods.

Schlagen-Musik Small group lessons – 30 minute classes

Fall classes will meet every Tuesday starting February 4th – April 28th

The Hickory Music Factory is offering a homeschool chorus ensemble for upper middle school and high school students. This class is a part of the HMF “One Music for All” program and is free all who would like to participate (spots are limited). This program was made possible through a grant from the Corning Foundation.
