Our Approach
The organization isn’t classically based in its approach to musical education. Rather, the Hickory Music Factory takes a well-rounded, interdisciplinary approach and strives to address each child on an individual basis. Unfortunately, many music programs have rigid guidelines that don’t allow for all children to succeed. Therefore, we seek to address the system and nature of teaching music that inhibits growth and success. We don’t offer a strict curriculum but a malleable model meant to encourage all. Catering to each student’s unique passion, we offer individual lessons in several genres. Every person is different and learns differently and, in turn, music serves a different purpose in every life. We believe in celebrating students and their differences and helping them find their individuality in music.
How do I sign up for lessons?

Lesson Policies
1. Registration All students must complete HMF registration before their first lesson.
2. Lesson Rates 30-minute lesson: $25 45-minute lesson: $37.50 60-minute lesson: $50
3. Payment Lesson payments are due before the first day of the month being paid for. Payments may be made through the HMF Lesson Portal, cash, or check. Online credit card payments include a transaction fee.
Cash and Check Payments: Complete a payment form located next to the payment drop box at the front door. Place the form and payment in an envelope and deposit it in the drop box. Checks should be payable to Hickory Music Factory and include the student’s name, instructor’s name, and number of lessons or fees being paid.
A $15 late fee applies to late lesson payments and is paid directly to the instructor.
4. Attendance, Planned Absences & Make-Up Lessons
Planned Absences: If you know you will miss a lesson due to vacation or another commitment, notify your instructor when submitting your monthly payment. A $10 fee per planned absence is required to hold your regular lesson time slot.
Cancellations At least 24 hours’ notice: No $10 planned-absence fee applies. A make-up lesson may be offered, depending on your instructor’s availability. Make-up lessons are not guaranteed.
Less than 24 hours’ notice: The lesson is forfeited, and a make-up lesson is not guaranteed. Online lessons may be an option when illness or transportation issues prevent an in-person lesson. In an emergency, please contact your instructor as soon as possible.
5. Communication Students and families should communicate directly with their instructor about lessons, planned absences, cancellations, and rescheduling.
