The Hickory Music Factory (HMF) hosts dozens of events and programs in the Catawba community and serves over 20,000 people each year. The majority of these programs are free and open to the public and reach out to all ages, from children to seniors.

N.C. Day of Percussion @ Lenoir Rhyne University

On April 13, Percussionists and Drummers from all over the state will descend on LRU for the annual NC Day of Percussion.  Featured artists include marimbist and composer Michael Burritt, from NY and Drum Set artist Tommy Igoe from LA.  The event is free and is funded by the United Arts Council of Catawba.  Performances and clinics will start at 9am and will go until 9pm.  For more information email rickclinenc@gmail.com

Community Music Lessons @ Hickory Music Factory
May 4 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

The Hickory Music Factory in partnership with the Hickory Parks and Recreation Department, will be offering free music lessons to Hickory City residents. Anyone ages 5 and up are welcome to sign up for a private 30 minute lesson. Please call for a list of instruments being taught. No skill is needed to participate.

If you would like to sign up for a lesson, PLEASE CALL Angela Smith 828-324-6990. There will be a $5 charge for non Hickory City residents.

Swingin Under The Stars @ Lowes Foods City Park

The Annual Swinging Under the Stars Concert will be held in Downtown Hickory at the Lowes Foods City Park on Sunday May 26th. This FREE event features the Hickory Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Rick Cline, performing big band arrangements of jazz standards from the great American songbook. Swinging Under the Stars is presented by the City of Hickory and hosted by the Hickory Music Factory. This year Hal Rowe from WHKY will emcee the event and the Hickory Music Factory’s youth big band will open up the evening. There will be a vendor selling kettle corn and drinks so put on your dancing shoes or bring a chair and relax and enjoy the show!

Swinging Under the Starts draws over 1,500 patrons from all over the region to swing dance or simply to watch and listen to the classic big band music of the swing era. In 2008 Rick Cline and Hickory Downtown Development received the “Best Downtown Event” for all of North Carolina for the “Swingin’ Under the Stars”. Scholarship Applications Due @ Hickory Music Factory

The Hickory Music Factory (HMF) is now accepting scholarship and work study applications for music lessons. HMF offers a limited number of scholarships and work study programs to students ages 5-18 years of age. These are awarded on a quarterly basis. Applications need to be submitted on the dates listed above to be eligible for this scholarship/work study cycle. Financial need is assessed through written applications by the HMF board of directors. Funding for the scholarships are made possible through the Mark Weaver Scholarship Fund that helps provide lessons and programs to youth in the community who may not have the means to do so.
